Accounting Manager

We're looking for a driven and experienced Accounting Manager to join our tight-knit and collaborative Finance team. In this role you will be charged with developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements as well as overseeing the payroll function. In this capacity you will manage a small team of accounting specialists in the execution of daily tasks such as monthly, quarterly and annual G/L closings including preparing and entering journal entries, fixed asset tracking and account reconciliations to ensure that all accounting functions are carried out in a timely and thorough manner. As an experienced Accounting professional, you will manage a variety of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting and year-end audit preparation. Our ideal candidate is extremely detail oriented,  enjoys working in a high volume & fast paced environment with an emphasis on accuracy and timeliness, displays a high aptitude for effectively prioritizing and solving problems and is comfortable being a hands-on player/ coach in a small team of people who like to do things right. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information as well as accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure to maximize the facilitation of both current and future reporting requirements.
  • Partner with the Controller to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit as well as any other audits that are scheduled including the 401k audit. 
  • Calculate the monthly deferred revenue ensuring that Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP) are being followed in regards to revenue recognition, specifically software revenue recognition.
  • Review and approve all monthly reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts including all cash accounts. 
  • Responsible for accurately preparing certain account reconciliations and reviewing them with the Controller.
  • Assist the Controller with a variety of Income Tax and SALT tax matters with the support of outside Tax experts.
  • Assist Controller and department with the design and implementation of policies and procedures, special projects and reports, including the development of Financial Statements and related analysis as needed.
  • Oversee payroll function.
  • Maintain oversight over fixed assets.

 

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • BS in Accounting. (MBA or CPA certification preferred).
  • A minimum of 8+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • 3+ years previous experience managing an Accounting team as well as supervisory experience in financial reporting/general ledger.  
  • Demonstrated success in managing multiple, competing priorities while working towards established goals/deadlines in a fast-paced environment coupled with the ability to set and reassess priorities and objectives for the team.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Fastidious attention to detail, strong analytical and organizational skills along with the ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines is required.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills; excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; a strong mentor and coach and demonstrated ability to drive department to achieve goals and objectives and able to effectively communicate complex financial information to both accounting and non-accounting oriented audiences.
  • Strong computer skills including relevant financial/ accounting tools and applications such as Great Plains and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong working-knowledge of ADP payroll modules coupled with well-developed knowledge of payroll laws.
